As an earth sign, (Taurus), I always thought that I would naturally be grounded. Nothing could be further from the truth! In fact, for most of my life, I lived 'outside of my body'--disconnected from my natural resources, such as my intellect, intuition, feelings and the wisdom and strength of my body, because I wasn't in it! I wasn't present and connected to myself. This showed up as my being scattered, saying what I thought people wanted to hear, making commitments that I hadn't thought through that usually ended badly, and even more shockingly, I realize now, I couldn't trust myself and I wasn't trustworthy.
As Maya Angelou says, "When you know better, you do better!"
In 2006, the pain of my own life drove me to learn more about being grounded! To make a change you have to know what's in it for you. I learned that I could make better and healthier choices if I was more present. You have to be present to win, right?! Other benefits of being grounded are you get in touch with your own feelings, your judgements are better, you pay attention to your bodily needs and take care of them faster (hunger, thirst, exhaustion), and you set better boundaries because you are more aware. By naturally being in touch with your intuition and your intellect, with no effort, your guidance is more complete and allows you to better navigate the world. Your life just becomes easier and more joyful because you are connected to all your resources!
So, what pulls us out of our grounding? The biggest culprits are fear, sadness, irritation, resentment, anger and upset. Also, other people's drama can pull you out of your grounding, not getting enough sleep, overwork, rushing and lastly, not drinking enough water!!
The importance of being grounded and centered cannot be overstated! I can attest to you that it is truly life changing! It is now the foundation of both my personal and professional life. I have a simple technique that takes just a few minutes to practice...I will share it with you soon!
